When in Tokyo and you are not too sure what Izakaya to wander into then you can venture into trusty Shimonya Izakaya.
Draft beer 550 yen, medium bottle beer 500 yen.
Lots of interesting fresh meat including horse and innards.

The damage for a bunch of 600 yen Mega-Hiballs and a few dishes 5000 yen for two. Overall the chef was super friendly and the staff very attentive. If in Shiinamachi (just 1 stop from Ikebukuro) give Shimonya a try! This restaurant had one of the best layouts compared to other branches... most are rather small.
