Once again in charge to hunt down a restaurant for visiting staff from the UK. But this night we decided to go for a very salaryman atmosphere with a solid Tabelog foodie ranking.
And so we arrived at Marushige Izakaya at 7pm on a Monday night.
Instant 300yen Otoshi (table charge w/ mini appetizer). Tiny transparent fish.
This mound of 1,000yen uni was the hit of the night. I'm not a fan of Uni but it was so creamy, didn't taste like the ocean and sweet. Wow... we ordered 3 plates.
Fresh tuna is another must... ordered 3 plates of that also.
The manager explaining Sake. Super friendly guy.
Garlic chicken a must! Yum... who says yum to chicken? It was good.
Nice L shaped counter seating.
WARNING! Menu is only in Japanese and quite alot to take in so you can either randomly ask for some "Osusume" (Recommended) items or perhaps look thru the Tabelog foodie pics to show the waitress: http://tabelog.com/tokyo/A1308/A130801/13000192/dtlphotolst/1/smp2/
Tables were lined with old newspaper articles in English.
Friendly business card exchange with the shop boss.
This place was just perfect and absolutely full on a Monday night! My boss who frequents 30,000 yen sushi dinners in Ginza was very happy with the quality of fish here. Lots of different kinds of sake, vast menu, friendly staff and really old school salaryman interior. Gotta go!!
