ROPPONGI HILLS: Tsukemen Tetsu...went from chubby noodles to hella boring after 5pm. What a disaster...

No no no... its thumbs DOWN Fonzie... put that in your pocked.  It had been over 6 months since I last visited one of my all time favorite Super Chubby Chewy Thick tsukemen noodle shops but this day I was met head on with shocking disappointment. 

Great thing about TETSU is normal, large and massive portions of Tsukemen noodles are all the exact same  price.  So this night I went all out for the massive portion.

My friend Hiro chose the Large Portion "Dai" with cold noodles and I got the "Toku-Moru" with the Atsumor (Hot noodles).

$13 or 1,300 an hour to work here. Not too bad.

And so the amazing Tsukemen arrives but the noodles are soooo thin? WTF!? Really?  Later I found out that the amazing thick noodles are only served until 5pm and then they only serve this thin noodle version.  No wonder why TETSU was so unusually empty this night and the brand new Afuri with a much lower foodie ranking was full.  I was totally shocked.

A few bites and I was totally bored.  TETSU lost all its originality to try and follow a trend of offering a lighter version of both noodles and soup to adjust to the after bar hopping crowd.  

Soup was not a creamy thick style but so light and watery... I couldn't believe it.  

EMPTY EMPTY... I will never goto TETSU after 5pm when the thin noodles and lighter soup broth is served.  Shocked beyond words... Time to take by Tsukemen business elsewhere.

ROPPONGI: Tetsu Ramen has super thick noodles again for dinner! YEAH!

Ramen Tetsu was always my go-to spot for closing the night in Roppongi but for some reason in 2014 they started only offering thin noodles after 5pm.

Walked by and asked the staff if what kind of noodles they served... and he said Futomen!

Jumbo noodles volume at no cost... 

Counter seating... and table seating. There is also a section in the back that seats 4 per table.

Its been soooo long since I had dipping noodles tsukemen that I forgot to ask for Atsumori where they don't run the noodles thru cold water before serving.  Oh well...

Soup was not as muddy as I remembered.

Fried onion chips for topping.

Overall I'm glad Tetsu decided to return to their original thick noodles.

I will surely be back.

ROPPONGI HILLS: Tsuke-men TETSU... as thick as worms! Wowwww

There are 3 ramen shops in this alley thats located off the Hibiya-line (basement level) of Roppongi Hills and Tsuke-men Tetsu is the only spot with a consistent line every time I walk past.

So I just had to give it a go after my mediocre adventure with Ramen Tetsukama just down the alley.

I rarely order Tsuke-men (noodles and soup in separate bowls) but since this place was named "Tsuke-men" I gave it a go.   Went for the 900yen tsukemen with a flavored egg... Normal, Large and Extra Large portion of noodles are all the same price thus the 3 buttons to the right of the picture.

I ordered the "Atsu-Mori" version of the tsuke-men so the noodles were in a hot soup... I'm assuming its the soup used to boil the noodles (flavor of the noodles remain in the soup).

And the noodles!  WOW!!  Thick thick thick!!! I have never seen such chunky chewy noodles like this before... and I thought Jiro Ramen was chunky.   The texture was great and enjoyed eating each string of mochi-mochi noodles~.  I so prefer this to thin ramen noodles.

Nice thick flavored ramen soup... yum.

My flavored egg... very sweet and tasty.

Melty pork... had 2 pieces inside... not so big but the massive portion of noodles kept me full.

And unusually there is also table seating.  I'm so glad to wander into this shop and I should have known there was some reason for the lines at Tsuke-Men Tetsu.  If you want a solid ramen that will leave you both satisfied and incredibly stuffed (order the Oomori or Tokumori noodles!)
