NERIMA: Chiyoda Sushi at Seiyu (Walmart)... late night 50% off sushi!

You'll spot Chiyoda Sushi here and there in Tokyo but its supermarket grade sushi that will barely hit the spot... but this night after 10pm there were so many 50% off items.  Think it may be due to summer vacation and Obon holidays... everyone leaves Tokyo.

Half price in Kanji is --> 半額 or "Hangaku"
370yen down to 185yen!

Hmm... its ok. I don't think this level of sushi is even served at the rotating Kaiten Sushi spots.  Think maybe McDonalds of Sushi.

JINGUMAE (OMOTESANO/HARAJUKU): Mizuho for some tasty Mame-Daifuku mochi balls!

If in Japan don't just nibble on Pocky Sticks and yummy snacks at the convenient store but for 100% sure give this Mame-Daifuku mochi ball a try... all Japanese love it.

My friends Japanese wife always name dropped Mizuho and since it was her birthday I decided to make the journey into the side streets posh Omotesando.

I ordered a box of 8 and the lady picked out 8 freshly made pieces from the back and packed it very nicely in a box.

The grey box is filled with 8 mochi balls... plus 1 for myself to try.

The Daifuku here just seemed more refined than those in the supermarket.  If you are ever in the Omtoesando or Harajuku area just give one a try... the sweet bean paste in the middle is just sweet enough.  More info on Mame (bean) Daifuku's here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daifuku

ROPPONGI: Edomae Gatten Sushi... 130yen Tuna all day long! Was amazing this night~

Top left corner item was all mine this night... was just soooo incredibly good I didn't venture into any other items.  Its a given that the Chutoro and Ootoro are delicious but when a sushi shop can deliver on regular Akama Tuna its a measure of how great the shop is.

5 chunky tuna's in a row!

The staff is always super friendly.

What I most love... the location is a bit hidden vs Sushi Zanmai so at times you almost have the entire restaurant to your self.  Perfect for families... nice and quiet plus no smokers this night.

Looks like you can keep your own bottle of sake here... but I don't order any alcohol here just the free green tea.  If you order alcohol they will serve you a little "otoshi" (mini-appetizer) and automatically charge about 300 yen or so.

Lots of great items.  Oh I asked the Sushi Chef if they can make special items not on the menu... he said if they have the ingredients of course!  Next time I'll have to try to request a spicy avocado tuna roll~.

Check out my previous entries!

I'm a fan and you must go!

ALL OVER TOKYO: Sukiya for a after midnight ultra reasonable salty chicken dinner set~

When you don't quite want ramen or a beef bowl some locations offer a nice blend of alternatives... so I hit up Suki-ya past midnight.  http://www.sukiya.jp/

Everything is pictured! Foreign friendly

This was my target for the night... Chicken grilled in special salt sauce on a bed of chopped green onions!

Main, salad and miso soup all for only 530eyn

Its a very good meal.  But in the past few days Sukiya has been in the news of overworking their employees and only using one staff to take care of the entire night shift.  Oh my...
