NERIMA: Matsuya Tonkatsu Shop... the Daikon Oroshi topping (white raddish) on sale! Gotta try it~

I have no idea how a simple 80yen ($1) reduction in price can lure me into a shop but had to give he Daikon Oroshi Tonkatsu a try~...

For only 1 week 580yen to 500yen...

Free hot tea

And it arrives... not on a metal net as the usual Pork Tonkatsu (due to the grease) but sitting quietly on a plate topped with....

...a giant heat of minced white raddish!

Unsure the normal procedure but I added the radish to the small cup of sauce then placed it back onto the Tonkatsu before eating... think it might be more traditional to evenly pour the sauce (Ponzu?) onto the radish.  It was a very refreshing and perhaps almost healthy with the radish... but I did miss not having the regular Tokatsu sauce and hot yellow mustard option.

Seaweed Miso soup comes with the meal.

And the rice is not your usual delicious supermarket type but a lower grade variety...

The carrot salad dressing was yum

And for the very first time... in a town not normally associated with any kind of wealthy I spot a Ferrari 458.

SHIBUYA: (CLOSED) Chikara-Meshi #3... Great Grilled Beef Bowls. Brand new and super busy! (Pentax MX-1)

** UPDATE: This once popular franchise is down to only 8 shops in Japan **
Chikara-Meshi has been opening up all over Tokyo recently and its a very warm welcome as I think most of us are a bit tired of having Yoshinoya or Sukiya beef bowls as the only alternative to Ramen.

Menu is all fully automated with a "Eat In" and "Take Out" touch panel options.   After your selection have a seat and pass the ticket to the waitress... this night a very heavy-set jolly lady.  Oh don't forget to push the large lever below the touch screen panel to get your change.

Lots of sauces/toppings to choose from.

Free water on the counter~.

I went for the New Open special "Yaki Gyudon" for 280yen (normally 320yen).

And there it is with a very nice serving of Miso Soup.

I really do prefer this to Gyu-don (meat boiled in sauce).  The strips of beef here are grilled and seasoned.

Spotted a little container of Spicy Miso seasoning...

...gave a very nice kick to the beef.  Reminded me of tasty Korean Gochujang

This was a huge hit... Yaki-Gyudon-Teishoku... served on a hot metal plate with veggies, small salad, miso soup and a bowl of rice for 480yen.  A great value.

Water had a slice of Lemon... just like Europe~.  You never see this in Japan.

Located between Shibuya-Labi and Citibank... You can't miss it!

While crossing the street to Chikara Meshi I noticed a very nice Ferrari 458.

OMOTESANDO HILLS: Golden Brown Burger Shop... Fries that reach da sky!

Friend of mine with the perfect Aussie accent invited me out for a lunch Burger in posh Omotesando Hills... with tenants like Harry Winston and Jimmy Choo what kind of price will these burgers command~?

There are no special lunch sets (drink, salad, dessert etc) but you will get a mountain load of chewy fries with every order.  Burgers start at 900yen to 1,350yen.

Interior is very comfortable and clean...

Mayuko ordered the Bacon Cheese Burger...

I picked up the 1,350yen Avocado Cheese Burger... first impression was that this burger is very pretty... kind of an odd choice of words but the avocado was perfectly sliced and cheese perfectly melted only on the burger.  Lettuce extra crispy and Tomato very juicy...

Itadakimasu~.  Overall a solid burger... can't say anything bad about it... If you have the urge for hamburgers this will definitely hit the spot but perhaps won't make you craving for a second visit.  Oh, the amount of chewy french fries were massive!  I couldn't finish.

We entered at 12:15pm and the shop was fairly full but by 1pm it was totally empty.  I guess the rather low foodie ranking of 3.17pts says it all... maybe the other alternatives in Omotesando/Harajuku area attracts more burger fans.

1pm... where is everyone?

I don't think I'll be back but if you want a satisfying clean burger in a posh atmosphere of Omotesando Hills then give it a go~.

...and if you are a car fan there are always exotics parked in the area.  Beautiful Ferrari 458 nearly got backed into by that older C-Class Mercedes... phew... only inches away.

Shop: Golden Brown
Nearest Station: Harajuku or Omotesando
Address J: 東京都渋谷区神宮前4-12-1 表参道ヒルズ 3F
Address E: Tokyo, Shibuya-ku, Jingumae 4-12-1, 3rd Floor.
