YOYOGI: JB's Burger TOKYO! The first time I have ever been here and its an absolutely greasy deliciousness of a glorious mess! YAMMY! (iPhone 12 Mini)

 

Ive walked by JBs Burger over a hundred times but have never really stopped by to have a 500 yen basic burger... Back in the day there was really no line but then influencers started dining here and now there is usually a consistent line of Japanese during lunch and Tourists during the day.

It was a bit smaller than I imaged. Bread loaf burger is 500 yen and for an additional 20 yen you can get a regular burger bun. But the incredibly friendly cashier suggested the bread loaf if you like a chewy kinda texture.

It was double layered in wrapping... I was curious why this could be?

Extremely simple... looks kinda like a smash burger.

A few bites and this thing is absolutely addictive! My fingers and lips were covered in a thin layer of delicious grease! Its so rare to have something seemingly very unhealthy in Japan. I loved it!! Will definitely go back again. Cashier mentioned there was indoor dining too. GO GO!!

IKEBUKURO: Yobocho for some great 1,000 yen western and Japanese lunch options! Very flavorful Hamburger steak lunch plate!! (Pixel 7 Pro)

 

I never have lunch in Ikebukuro but this day a few friends invited me out to give Yobocho a try!  There is a vending machine style dispenser so just put in your money and push the pictured lunch item you want.

The lunch options.  Give you ticket to the waitress then wait in line until a spot opens up on the counter or the few table seats.  You will be called on in order.

Counter seating! Quite the volume for 1,000 yen.  Tonjiru soup, hamburger steak and rice

Hamburger has a sunny side up egg on top and smothered in very flavorful sauce.

Misoshiru or Tonjiru... Tonjiru all day folks! 

And there were lots of veggies on the hot steel plate.

The hamburger steak on this hot skillet keeps grilling and grilling... I would suggest cutting it in half and placing it on the plate of rice. It started to get a bit over cooked.  FYI! But overall its a quick in and out spot in Ikebukuro. If you go in a small group there is a possibility you will sit separately.

OKINAWA NAHA: Zootons Burger Joint! Highly foodie ranked but rather mediocre... not juicy and sauce ho-hum (Sony RX100)

I was totally on my way to have a delicious bowl of Okinawa Soba at Taito but the smell of the grilled burgers was pouring out of Zootons!  I just had to go inside to check it out.

Lots of fun memorabilia on the walls.  Keeps you busy until the order arrives. 

In Tokyo burger lunch sets are the standard that includes a drink, fried potatoes and a burger.  But here its all ala carte... if you order a drink then you get free fries.  Nah not for me. 

I went for the Avocade Cheese Burger 840 yen (tax included)!

Presentation is surely spot on a beauty. 

Special sauce that was rather light... I seriously needed Ketchup to help out the flavor. 

Burger was thin and dry... This has got to be one of the more boring hamburgers I have had in Japan.  BUT  I did love the warm crispy buns!

Overall this place was pretty blah for me... a guy who has been spoiled by the stunning burgers in Tokyo.  I definitely won`t be back.  The service was very good though... Male waiter is from Tokyo.

AKASAKA: Authentic Burger Joint... Where's the beef? Grumpy waitress and zombie chef. (Sony RX100).

For some reason there are very few burger joints in the Akasaka area.  Did a weekend Staycation nearby and got me a burger craving... Oh yes there is Authentic here!

Covid19 Coronavirus rules before you enter and greeted by a very moody waitress... no smiles.  I don't think she liked working here.

But went for the burger everyone raves about... well I did a slight rave but didn't take my advice about probably not going back during my visit 9 years ago.

First time to spot a THERMOS mug at a restaurant... I'm a Hydro Flask fan.  They had a great Hawaiian music station on the BGM.

Sat in the very back facing some cardboard shelves.  There is counter seating that faces the chef in action but I guess they try to avoid people sitting there due to coronavirus.

And here it is! My 1,360 yen Broccoli Burger! 

Came with some skinny fries.

A few bites and noticed the meat patty was so incredibly thin... it was almost the same thickness as the skinny french fries.  Well done, zero juiciness and it was such a disappointment. 

Where's the beef?  This was basically a salad sandwich with a side of thin meat... just imagine they sourced some McDonalds dollar menu burger patties and placed it gently into this 1,360 yen meal.

The dressing was totally ranch... yup salad sandwich are ye. 

Overall I gotta tell ya this burger was just not good.  But if you love soft broccoli there were loads of it inside.  I paid the grumpy waitress and drifted past the chef who didn't even bother to say thank you.  There are much better options in Tokyo... Just don't go here.
