SHINJUKU 3-CHOME: Nihon Saisei Sakaba... what could this mean?

In the back alleys of Shinjuku... sandwiched between the very Yakuza filled suspicious Kabukicho and the ever so popular clubs & bars streaming Madonna/Erasure/PetShopBoys crowd of Shinjuku Ni-Chome lies the famous eating/dining district of Shinjuku 3-Chome home to hungry salarymen and random OL's

As you enter they will immediately bring you the little Otoshi (always included if you order alcohol and its usually 315yen is added to your bill)...  We got little cuts of seasoned cabbage...

Icy cold draft beer...

The chopsticks were in a very unique spot... I won't tell ya but it was pretty cool.

The main menu was on this old cardboard layout... Japanese menu's are just so confusing and when you get lost just say "Osusume Kudasai" (Recommended dishes please)... But there was one menu in both Japanese and English... the Yakitori stick menu. WARNING: Possibly unique to Japan but there are odd items on the Motsuyaki Stick Menu (Brains, head meat, intestines, stomach etc).

We got a great corner spot facing the Chef hard at work.

Terry's first Osusume-Kudasai was Bacon~... super juicy and tender.

This place used Charcoal for the grill...

2nd Osusume... think this was pork shoulder.  Had a nice tough texture...

Specials menu above us written in Chalk... I ordered the...

Motsu-Nikomi (Giblet Stew)... was very tasty.

View looking out from the counter.

Rina ordered the Liver... this seems popular with girls... even Mari loves this.

Closed with a crispy Onigiri... think it was flavored with miso or shoyu?

If you select "tare" for your sticks they will dip it into this pot... Chef said the sauce has been in there for 10years.

As the cold settles into Tokyo you should always give "Atsu-kan" sake a try... heated sweet Sake thats a hit with both the ladies and guys.

Partners in Crime for this night... Terry and Rina.  Overall the staff was exceptionally friendly and initially tried to take our order in English.  There was a very good rotation of customers so if this spot is busy there were so many other places facing this restaurant.  If in the area and want to experience a little bit of tasty Yakitori/Motsuyaki I'd recommend this friendly standing eatery~.

Kojimachi 31 MT Bldg Lot: Kingston12 Jamaican Lunch Wagon... (Tuesdays Only)

Off to one of my favorite lunch wagon spots in Tokyo...

31 MT building lot!

Jamaican... yum... always a fan of Jerk Chicken shop AALAWI in Ebisu but its been a long while since I went back...

Torn between the brown stew chicken that I've never tried before and the jerk chicken... so as usual I go with what I know. Both only 600yen!  One of the least expensive bento's in this lot.

Looks like another choice... Stew and Steamed Cabbage on Rice for only 500yen.

Leaflet for some Reggae club in Shinjuku... (click to enlarge).

Friendly chef hard at work... you'll find customers in Tokyo rarely chat up restaurant or even store staff (unlike the US).  But if you do they are always so receptive and nice.

And there it is!  My Jerk Chicken... absolutely satisfied.  The chicken was very tender and spice on top added just enough flavor to keep me going.

I'll definitely be back to try the Stewed Chicken plate!

ROPPONGI: (CLOSED 7.2020 COVID-19) Torikizoku 280yen EVERYTHING Yakitori and Drinks! Sticks were gigantic!

Passed by on July 17, 2020 and the entire building that houses many restaurants was completely dark.  I can only assume the owners have sold the property or it has something to due with Coronavirus.  You will have to head to the EAST Exit branch for your cheap Yakitori needs.

I first saw Torikizoku featured on TV but definitely not an Izakaya to take sweet Mari so it remained on my list until this past weekend... 280yen for large yakitori chicken sticks and all the drinks on the menu!?  Recruited 2 friends to join~.

All the drinks were 280yen...

For beer you have two choices for beer... the Medium Size (Ichiban Shibori) or Large Size (TanrieNama).

Pictures for everything on the menu... can't really go wrong with Yakitori... just point and explore!

All dishes include 2 sticks.

I arrived at an early 6:30pm to find my friends missing... so sat down and had a few orders... this was the Liver (called Kimo).  Large chunks... very creamy texture.

An easy order... green bell peppers stuffed with minced chicken.  Honestly after these 2 dishes I was pretty much stuffed...

The cheese topped tsukune sticks were very good! And have to recommend the tender beef-sticks on the same plate as the cheese tsukune.

Someone had a craving...

Crunchy lotus-root with chicken topping.

Always need to order the Cabbage.

Don't order this!  It was tiny bits of chicken with butter potatoes... soooo tiny.

Closed with the shop recommended chicken rice?

This will take 30min to completely cook at your table...

Think they use special chicken broth, veggies and tasty rice... it was just ok...

Recommend taking a few friends so you can try out the many different sticks.

Counter seating and table seating inside...

Have never seen exposed Kegs in a Japanese restaurant before but then again its rare to find giant beers for only 280yen!  Don't think I'll be back anytime soon unless I need cheap beer~... but if you are new to Japan and on a budget because of the strong yen then give it a go!  Service is quick and its very kind on the wallet.  But if you want to enjoy a different kind of amazing Yakitori with English menu's then goto Kushi-Wakamaru in Nakameguro!!   OH! This place was also filled with couples with babies and families with little children early on in the night.
