OKINAWA NAHA: Okinawa GO (Garlic Onion) Chicken for Christmas! BUT SUPER DRY... sad. (Sony RX100, D7100)

Its super traditional in Japan that on Christmas Day you eat chicken... on the mainland its KFC where you need to make a reservation otherwise no chicken for you on Xmas Day.

SO! I went to my favorite Rotisserie Chicken spot in Okinawa.

The male chef was super busy boxing up a large number of chickens and his wife took my order.  No half sizes available on Christmas day so got that full 1800 yen bird.  Kinda of alot for 1 person.

Wrapped in Foil!

Not sure about you but staring down a full chicken kinda gave me the creeps...

After exploring all areas of the full chicken I noticed there was really no juiciness... I think the chef had to prepare so many that they weren`t hot or juicy.  It was just a dry chicken.

Inside the chicken was a huge portion of minced garlic.

Wish bone! Haven`t seen one of these in 20 years.  I learned not to visit Okinawa GO Chicken on the holidays. Definitely give them a try any other day... usually its piping hot and incredibly tender.

That neglected Nissan Z32 Turbo (Fairlady Z) is still there... needs a rescue.
Check out my previous entry from 2020!

TOSHIMAEN: Mantendo for a belly full of Fried Chicken and a new FB Friend... Chef/Owner Mr. Nemoto~

I really had no intention of eating Fried Chicken Karaage but one this rare occasion I noticed below the Japanese lunch menu there was a nice attempt at an English menu... had to support this place for the effort.

I entered and Mr. Nemoto directed me to the English Menu... but one catch its only a fraction of the menu and later I regretted not ordering the butter garlic karaage teishoku.

For 850yen (for some reason I was charged 950yen) you get 6 pieces of chicken topped with 3 different seasonings.  Liked the Chilli Oil the best.

Most of the pieces were juicy tender and fried to order.

Its a very easy in easy out lunch spot if you are ever in the area.  Not too sure if I could spend a few hours here drinking... a bit dark and the interior kinda depressing.  But Owner/Chef Mr. Nemoto is very friendly and will actively chat you up... and he says he has an ear for English :).  Foreign client base seems to be Westerners and Chinese.

IKEBUKURO: Tenka Tori... chicken nuggets... kara'age... chicken nuggets... thats it.

Randomly walked past Tenka-Tori that only serves chicken nuggets with a variety of toppings. Hmm... thought I'd give it a try.

If you want rice its +50yen... not bad.

One man operation

950yen per hour if you want to work here.  Most popular topping Tomato Sauce.

Seating outside.

Hmm... It came out hot and I guess it was ok.  You really can't get nuggets wrong eh?  But the Japanese foodies gave it a lowly ranking of 2.96 on tabelog

Stopped by a little Japanese bar and shared the nuggets with Mama-san.  She said it was good.

NERIMA: Knuckles "Chicken Shack" for some chicken nuggets

Newly opened chicken nugget shop in Nerima!

Gotta love how they simply pasted their name in the middle of the previous businesses full on Taiyaki awning.

Always a fan of small new openings... http://s-nerima.jp/wp/28974

Few samples.  They are also selling fried Taiyaki, the cashier said this may be the only place in Japan serving it this way.

Opening Sale all 20% off.

Three levels of spiciness.  Super spicy "Beast" (Super spicy) "Wild" (spicy) and Mild Sauce.  I went for the Wild as his description of "Beast" was Geki-Kara (insanely hot).

Staff said they developed a new fryer that uses 41% less grease than conventional fryers so they are able to fry both Taiyaki and Chicken in the same oil without it getting overly greasy.

Faces the tiniest parking lot I've ever seen.

Overall the fight chicken nuggets were a bit mushy and the french fries soft and slightly greasy.  My Wild spicy sauce kinda tasted like Thai Sweet Chili Sauce... could have used a bit more.  I may return to give the chicken sandwich a try but will pass on the nuggets.  Cashier was extremely friendly and all smiles... oh when  another customer asked if this was a franchise shop he mentioned this is store #1.  Good Luck!
