SHIBUYA: (REVISITED) UraCona Pizzeria your female staff has gone downhill... how can this be?

Since my very first visit to Ura-Cona I have always raved about it to my friends and even taken a few dates there... I mean the service and quality of pizza WAS dead on the best of all the Cona's in Tokyo.  So on this day my buddy Yas (Japanese guy) had some special guests from Hawaii and he wanted to hit the place up.

We entered about 6:45pm and picked out a bottle of wine... If you enter before 7pm you can get the 1,000yen special (drink, appetizer, pizza and no entrance charge). Yas and I went with this deal and the...

Pâté arrived within minutes of our order...

... and so 20 30 40 minutes pass and the pizza we ordered failed to arrive.  At the time there were only 2 couples in the shop and it normally takes about 2-3 minutes to make one of these thin crust pizza's.

So asked one of the waitresses if she could check on the pizza for us... no smile, no confirmation with the chef, just full of attitude responding that we had to wait our turn... hold up... then another 10 minutes pass and we ask again... more attitude.  This type of girl is someone you rarely find in any Japanese restaurant... just extremely negative.  Her hands were badly dry with cracks covered in band-aids.  I can only assume things have not gone well for her in general.  OK! Thats my honest rant!

Yas ordered the Tuna salad... avoid this... who wants to eat canned tuna on a bed of salad?

Overall the female staff this night was just not good... the Pizza's lacked any kind of volume on their topping and the appearance/quality vs my other visits was mediocre at best.

I can no longer say that this is my Favorite branch of the Cona Pizzeria franchise... the new champ goes to Ikebukuro Cona with amazing service and top notch pizza's that once resided at UraCona.  Ooohhh... as I write this I am so sad... the current female staff just gets me down...  Anyways!  Perhaps in few months time the part-timer's will rotate out and this review will change.  Aloha!

SHIBUYA: URA-Cona... 500yen Pizza's and Drinks... hideaway too good to share!

After Duc and Nao's wedding reception we had to decide where to go for drinks... and right next door was "URA-CONA" !!

Me and the Skymark boys are regulars at one of the older incredibly cramped CONA's near the station but I had no idea there were more in the back streets of Shibuya...

This place was soooo nice...

Sooo many pizzas and each only 500yen...

Traditional margherita cheese pizza~...

Very tender prosciutto

Great thing about this Cona is that there is counter seating, barrels for those who want to stand and 2 private rooms in the very back that can fit 4 or 7... we were easily 10 here but very cozy.

Spicy Mexican pizza with Jalapenos and Pepperoni's!  My favorite I think.

Prosciutto with a half boiled Egg placed neatly in the center.  The tenderness of the Prosciutto was way more delicate than the usual watering hole.

All wine bottles are 2,500yen...

Counter seating facing the Pizza chef...

Standing barrels to the left.

Unusually there were no foreigners here... guess its still too new and hidden away~.  If you need a very nice inexpensive spot to hang out with friends over an amazing selection of 500yen hand made pizza's than there is no better place than URA-Cona... give it a try, you WON"T be disappointed!

YAKITORI: Toritake (Tori-Ta-Keh) in Shibuya

Just couldn't resist having a few CONA Pizzas (http://r.gnavi.co.jp/e192500/) in Shibuya before heading home but the shop was closed for training... and on a Saturday too. Wandered the back streets of Shibuya and came across Toritake. Mari mentioned it was a famous spot with locals and at 9:45pm 2 floors were nicely packed. Ordered the Liver (tasty), Yakitori (a bit on the dry side) and one Tsukune (tasty ground chicken on a stick)... a bit of Salad, 2 Salmon Onigiri's and a Bottled Beeru. Very light meal this night. Japanese restaurants will often give you a mini-appetizer (beer food)... this night it was seasoned Bamboo shoots. If you don't like whats offered then give it back to the waiter straight away because 300yen is normally charged to your bill for this. Mari's not a bamboo person so she returned it and we were charged only for my portion (340yen at Toritake). My advice, return it all and order an extra beer or Yakitori. The atmosphere is sooo very Japanese Japanese salary man style... if u want to immerse yourself into Japan then this would be a great spot. Overall I would definitely bring my foreign friends here for the atmosphere but as for the quality of the food and pricing I'd go elsewhere for my Yakitori fix.
