ROPPONGI: Komoro Soba for some huge Shrimp Tendon on Sale!

Its very rare that I hit up a soba noodle place instead of ramen before heading home but occasionally I should stick to some seafood vs carbs.  3 Pieces for 490yen... thats all me!

But wait! 680yen super high ranked jumbo shrimp for 490yen!  And 4 giant pieces instead of 3!

It didn't come with any sides like Miso soup but oh well... there is a ceramic bowl with free umeboshi's that were rather hard.

Overall it hit the spot and easy in easy out.  If you are craving Tempura on a budget then check it out... but you will have to walk past a few ramen shops to get there... good luck!

HIGASHI NAGASAKI: Sekizawa "Mon & Pop" Shokudo for One-Coin Teishoku... wow cheap!

Happened to make the long trek to Higashi-Nagasaki on the Seibu Ikebukuro line to check out highly ranked Cest Bien's "hamburger steak" lunch but it wasn't on the daily menu today... so decided to look for another spot and happened upon another highly ranked mom and pop Shokudo.

I'm a huge fan of one coin "500yen" lunches.

U shaped counter seating inside...

I stepped in a few minutes after their noon opening.  It was just so very old skool and lots of famous autographs along the walls.  One old guy making all the food and there were 2 mama'sans assisting him... all very polite with "irashaimassen" and "arigato-gozaimasu" ringing about.

Self serve water at the entrance.

The 500yen lunch included a large rice, miso soup, veggies and a huge block of tofu...

Then my menchi-katsu showed up... nice and crispy on the outside and super hot as it comes out freshly made from the oily pit.

There were easily 25+ items on Teishoku menu and everything was under 500yen.

Cost performance was very high and a place that probably see's very very few foreigners... give it a try!  If you get lost just ask for the "One Coin Teishoku" but a few guys ordered the "Katsu Curry."

EKODA: Teppan-Yaki ORELA... perfect service, casual atmosphere and fun food!

Its been about 3 years since my last venture into a Monja-Okonomiyaki spot and with the help of Groupon I scored for 2,500yen (all you can eat and drink) for 50% off... 1,250yen each for 2hours!

Looks like they were having a 1st drink free during Golden Week.

One large table at the entrance.

Long counter seating with views of the bartenders and chef at work.

Pre-made Okonomiyaki arrived before we ordered... a great starter.

And here it is!  Our all you can drink and eat menu.  The food mainly focused on the Monja but a fun selection of baby-star, pork kimchee, curry with mini hotdogs, mentaiko-cheese, negi-shoga with tiny shrimps and potage.  Its just fun food.

Mentaiko-Cheese...

The cooking style is a bit different than Okonomiyaki so the waiter immediately noticed we were a bit lost and got things started.  Service was just spot on great!

Counter seating...

Baby-Star okonomiyaki...

Meet Jun (guy in black) bartender and master chef... perfect service and super friendly.

Dessert... Crepe with chocolate and azuki beans.

Meet the head chef who was cooking in along the counter... another great guy.

Overall this place is easily 5 stars. Its just a great thing when you can cook your food and everything is hot hot... I'll definitely be back!
