NARIMASU: New Hope Church for.... home cooked Chili Rice!

I was raised as a Roman Catholic going to church and Sunday school on the weekends until I entered university then slowly drifted away from the Church scene... but something overcame me this Sunday morning and decided to give my New Hope church going friend from Hawaii a call.  It had been 3 years since my last visit and he was noticeably shocked but also glad I decided to go on this day.

Little did I know they serve food on the 2nd and 4th Sundays... this day it was Home Made Chili Beans for only 200yen (adults) and 100yen (kids)... what a deal in a land where its so rare to find Chili.

Just toss your money into the bucket...

Friendly volunteers helping on the Chili line.

200 yen for all this... and it just had a great home made taste to it.

The main pastor in the center with myself and David (my classmate during my MBA in Hawaii and also worked with him for a few years at a Japan only equities Hedgefund)

There's also an English/Japanese international pre-school here too.

If you need a little Aloha (New Hope Ministry is headquartered in Hawaii) and enjoy mingling with fully bilingual super friendly Japanese/Foreigners with a variety of backgrounds then this might be an interesting spot to attend service.  As a foodie I'll probably start attending the 2nd and 4th service of the month for some great home cooked meals.

HARAJUKU/OMOTESANDO: The Great Burger California House... cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.

I'm a big big fan of The Great Burger's Chili Burger but never visited their Sister shop California House until today... was a nice cool day so the outdoor seating pulled me in.

...but I was seated at the counter facing the Burger Chef... we were literally facing each other within hang shake distance.  This shop is very very cozy in terms of space.  Looks like they have Monthly Burgers.

Lunch comes with a drink of your choice, fries or salad (can ask for Oomori - extra size) and a burger.

There it was.  The waitress recognized me from my frequent visits to The Great Burger and started to chat me up a bit... then the chef Fumi-san joined in.  Its a very small narrow shop and so much more friendly and relaxing vs the other.

Veeeery juicy beef and of course one of Tokyo's best chili's.

Went for the Oomori french fries for free

I was alone this day thus the counter seating but if you want a view of the chef at work then it sure is a great spot to watch all the action vs keeping busy on the iPhone.

ASAGAYA: Hawaii's Own Coffee Co (HOCC) revisited for Chili Rice!

When HOCC was tweeting they had their home made chili for 2 days during the Asagaya Jazz Festival I had to go!  Love their tuna and chicken sandwiches but for hard to find Chili in Tokyo I will go anywhere.

Kenta and his staff filling a Chili order.  Most of their staff have some connection to Hawaii and speak English...

Chili Bowl starts at 500yen with toppings at a minimal fee.

There it is... Chili with extra rice and cheese/onion topping... Spiciness was just right, no need to search for Tabasco.  Overall a great Chili flavor.

My mango Smoothie with hints of fresh Pineapple.

Kenta's Uncle was out and about helping during the busy 2-day Asagaya Jazz Streets annual Festival.

Special spam musubi with a layer of egg... home made.
