KICHIJOJI: Jingle Jangle Hawaiian Dining... Hawaii meets Classic Movie Posters

After hitting up 2 different locations in Kichijoji it was time to find a relaxing spot... Childhood friend Kawika lead us to Hawaiian Dining "Jingle Jangle."

Left side of the entrance there is a tiny table for 2 and further back booth seating for a group of 4-5 people.  Nice and cozy.

Free nuts.

Interior is plastered with magazine cutouts, old movie posters and some hand made decorations. At first it was such an interesting theme but after an hour the interest turned into thinking this place was sooo busy on the eyes.

Had to take a video of the restroom and all the artwork inside.

Garlic Octopus... suuuupe garlicy.

Taco Rice that tasted less like taco seasoning and more like umeboshi seasoning.  It was a nice change... but I got my shops mixed up.  Upstairs is an Okinawan restaurant... shoulda tried something more Hawaiian.

Overall an interesting place with jolly service.  BGM was a mix of Hawaiian and 70-80's Japanese hit songs.

AKASAKA: Ogo's for Lunch Special! Hawaiian Beef Stew and hidden menu item Ahi Limu Poke

Met one of my oldest friends Shotaro thru a mutual friend (Brenda) over 20 years ago... we both lived in Hawaii so what better way to catch up than at Ogo's.

Ryoji (owner/chef) mentioned that the Spicy Avocado Ahi Poke was sold out but offered Ahi Limu Poke as an alternative... also suggested to try out the day's special, Hawaiian Beef Stew.

Ahi Limu Poke... fresh and just too perfect.

Stew was goooood... no leftovers here.

Plus 100yen gets you a drink and Hawaiian dessert.

Quick shot of the new seating and interior...

AKASAKA: OGO Ono-loa Hawaii... Loco Moco and Poke Combo. (NEW SEATS!)

Back to Ogo's for a combo plate.

Lunch Menu... they just sold out of Mochiko Chicken!  Next time...

My LocoMoco and Spicy Avocado Poke combo lunch (1,100yen).    First time to go for the Loco Moco and there was something distinctly american about the flavor of this burger... brought back memories of being back in the states... soooo good!!  Now if you want to know how good it was try and compare it to all thats wrong with L&L Shibuya's Loco Moco.

Nice spicy kick.

Ryoji got in some new tables and chairs. Place looks brighter.

If you come alone the 3 hi-chair counter seats have expanded to 6 table seats... more space for the lone diners.

For an additional 100yen you can get a drink and Hawaiian dessert.

See you again Ryoji.

AKASAKA: Ogo's Revisited... Best Authentic Hawaiian in Tokyo

Check out the menu downstairs before heading up to 5F.

In Japan... especially Ginza there are buildings dedicated to hostess clubs... Always found it kinda cool to see Ogo's in the mix in this Akasaka property.

Lunch Menu.

Got there at an early 11:30am before the crowd... Traffic started to flow in around noon.

Ryoji's selection of original Ogo sauces.

My Kalua pig and spicy avocado poke mix plate 1,100yen plus 100yen for drink/desert.

Doesn't get better than this outside of Hawaii... sooo ono~.

Macaroni Salad...

Kalua pig...

And closing off with some dessert...

SHIBUYA: L&L Hawaiian BBQ... wave Aloha as you walk on by. Japan foodie score a complete disaster!

L&L brings back memories of the small L&L BBQ No.2 shop in Pucks Alley.  You could always count on a hot tasty plate with lots of volume and generous portion of mac salad...

When I heard L&L opened up in Shibuya I had to take Mari to check out some plate lunches.  The image I had was from Hawaii... big volume, satisfying taste and reasonable prices.  These 3 things that define L&L.

We went for the Garlic Shrimp 850yen and Loco Moco 980yen.

The 850yen Garlic Shrimp brought back memories of Kahuku shrimp on the North Shore.   I never saw this on the menu in Hawaii but it should be a big hit in Tokyo.

I greeted my  980yen Loco Moco with a smile because it was huge... but honestly I got bored with it after a few bites.  I think the only thing Hawaiian about this was the gravy.  Japanese make amazing hamburger steaks and the quality of the hamburger used here just can't compete.  If you want give it a try then go the the M size.

I'm a big fan of the BBQ Mix Plate but at 1,380yen ($15) it was a pass.  I think this store got the whole concept wrong by opening in prime Shibuya on 3 floors.  Japanese will go anywhere & wait in line if the food is good and fairly priced... but paying central Shibuya rents and trying to keep in the black by selling overpriced plate lunches, well.... Mari and I agree'd.... the fad will end and this place will not make it.  There are way too many alternatives for young money strapped consumers that define Shibuya.

If you miss Hawaii then you should check out Ogo's in Akasaka for lunch... it beats L&L hands down.  If you want a place to relax over a soda after a long day in Shibuya then check out L&L, the interior is comfy and the Hawaiian music is soothing.  The next time I visit L&L will be in Paradise.
