HIKARIGAOKA: Sakanaya Shun. Fresh fish market with lot of sashimi and sushi selections. Foodie friends go to spot for Fish. (Lumix TZ60)

I often bike around this area but had no idea there was a fresh fish market (mini tsukiji) in the residential area of Hibarigaoka. About 1300 meters from Hibarigaoka Station.

]
The staff will chop up the fish any way you request. Seems like a free service.

Lots of Tuna Maguro.

Ootoro and Chutoro.

Beginning of the sashimi and sushi options.

Sooo tempted to get the 800 yen roll but nearly everything was paired with Salmon... not a fan.

More salmon... oh no. But I gotta give it a try next time.

Family packs... very nice variety.

This was all me! 1,400 yen for maguro, chutoro and ootoro.

Crab miso soup anyone?

Unfortunately my sushi got squashed into one side of the container.

Looked so much better at the shop.

Right?

Ootoro

Chutoro

Akami... Maguro

Ootoro was definitely melty soft.  But I think this summer heat melted alot of the fat on my way home.  Need to get a mini cooler next time.

Fairly thick Chutoro

And finally Akami.

Every time I order a bit of sashimi at an Izakaya my foodie friend likes to criticize the quality. It kinda sucks when you are trying to enjoy a bit of seafood.  He suggested Sakanaya Shun and I think the cost performance was good... but eating sushi alone at home in non-ideal settings is a bit sad.  SO! Definitely go if you want to have something special with family but if you are lone diner then hit up a reasonable standing sushi spot... the overall experience is much better.

IKEBUKURO: 24hr Isomaru Seafood Izakaya for 1,000yen All-You-Can-Drink :)

In Ikebukuro at 2pm after a great bowl of GROWTH Ramen and with the sun blaring we were looking for some beer.  I can't ever recall drinking in the afternoon except during Hanami Season (Cherry Blossom season) at the park.  This 2hr 1,000yen all-you-can-drink banner caught my eye... looked at my friend... he looked back at me... no questions asked we headed inside.

All you can drink menu.

The special is normally from 5-7pm but they said it was no problem to start at 2pm.  Only rule is you need to order one plate of anything per person.

299yen per person will automatically be added to your bill and you get this starter.

If you are in Tokyo and craving seafood this is probably a great fresh spot to hit up but the local foodies don't quite agree with a lowly 2.89pt ranking

Craving the Tekka-Maki (Tuna Roll) but for 699yen it was a bit too much vs other shops.

They have flavored Whisky Hi-Balls... or just regular hi-balls.

Very spacious interior.

Order #1... salty seasoned cabbage

Order #2... baked garlic fish.... and thus we fulfilled the all-you-can-drink food requirement.

Great sake.

Mix of blue collared workers and younger people at this hour.

The staff of young ladies were very very friendly... think most were college students.

Also serve lunch here: http://www.isomaru.jp/lunch/

The food was a bit pricey for what you get but interior was spacious and design pretty cool.  This franchise has recently expanded all around Tokyo . Unsure if I'll drink so early in the afternoon again but if I do this will be a spot I'd revisit for sure!
