KICHIJOJI: Menya Musashi Kodo for Dipping Noodles! ... A ho-hum experience for me. (Sony RX100)

A buddy of mine who has been dormant in his ramen adventures due to the coronavirus outbreak finally broke down and invited me to check out Musashiya Ramen in Kichijoji.   UNFORTUNATELY I ordered teh same item as him not following my rule to push the top left corner button that is ALWAYS the shops most recommended dish.  I pushed th one on the second column.

4 ramen sizes!  You can select any of these without having to pay extra.  They offer 1 Kilogram!  I went for the smallest portion thats called Nami in Japanese.  Chu is medium portion and Dai is large (think its around 450-500 grams).

Playing alot of Hip Hop on the BGM.

Huge ramen broth pot.

Small sticker on the counter letting folks know if you want free garlic topping just let the staff know.

This is me!  Guessing my Nami portion is about 180-200 grams that is my style. Shop specializes in Tsukemen aka Dipping Noodles.

Extremely flavorful char-siu pork.

Now for the broth.  It was very light.. almost watery.  Like I mentioned I pushed the botton on the 2nd column... but seems the 1st colum comes with a more muddy broth that I prefer.  Oh well.

Friend told me more that the ramen broth the noodles is what makes this place great.  For Tsukemen they will rinse the hot noodles in cold water so it will maintain the texture... normally if left hot the noodles will begin to get softer.  It had been ages since I had tsukemen and forgot to ask for Atsumori... noodles are not rinsed in water and kept hot.  This way its a bit more chewy.

Overall I wasn't impressed with the flavor of the broth and price point was rather high.  Place has been around for years so they must have a huge following.  Anyways perhaps its worth a try.

AZABU JUBAN: 156 Ichikoro Ramen still going strong after 2.5 years! Great muddy dipping noodles. (SONY RX100)

Just across the street from Azabu Juban yakitori Torikizoku is 156.

I tried the regular ramen last time so went for the tsukemen.

900 yen without the boiled egg.  The noodles used for Tsukemen Dipping noodles will always be served cold in order to maintain the texture.  BUT if you don't associate cold noodles with ramen then just ask for Atsu-Mori (hot noodles) and the chef won't rinse it in cold water after the noodles are boiled.

Great counter seating, some tables... definitely couple and lady friendly.  Just so clean.

This is me... Tonkotsu Tsukemen.

Friend ordered the regular ramen.

The broth was so muddy and reminded me of Ramen Tetsu in Roppongi Hills.

The broth was muddy and so flavorful... just clinged to the noodles so well.

A slice of boiled chicken.

Boiled egg... hmm... not much flavor but nice add.

When you are done dipping all your noodles ask for the soup used to boil the ramen noodles.  This will mellow out the tsukemen broth and you can drink it like a soup.

Overall this might be a spot I will frequently visit for the dipping noodles.  Clean, cool, not so busy and overall a very relaxing ramen spot.  If in Juban why not!

KAWASAKI: Ramen Gyoku... Totally worth the 30 minute trek from Kawasaki Station... think fish broth tsukemen!

Never in my life would have I gone to Ramen Gyoku or even to Kawasaki unless it was for some kind of event... in this case it was for my Okinawan friends live performance.

Buy your ticket first then line up...  Interesting placement of buttons.  Normally the shops most recommended thats usually the least expensive sits at the left top corner but here it was the most expensive and perhaps something they want you to order.

But I went for the 800 yen Tsukemen dipping noodles... Atsumori-Style (hot noodles).

Little peels of yuzu to cleans the palette.

These guys love Rock Music!  All I recognized was GNR.

Oh! If you scan the shops LINE code and become friends then you can get one free topping.  Went for the boiled egg.

The fish broth was so wonderfully think and sooo flavorful... It reminded me a bit of Vegipota.

Noodles think and chewy... yum! Normally the boiled noodles are rinsed in cold water to maintain the texture but if you like them hot then ask for Atsumori.

Free grated onion topping.

Remember... don't drink all the soup.  You can add the hot ramen water to this to mellow out the flavor.

There were little pieces of fresh yuzu in the soup.
If in Kawasaki you gotta take that 30 minute stroll to Ramen Tama!
