HATAGAYA: Ryukyu Sakaba for tasty Okinawan! Beer Food! Thanks Groupon :)

1,980yen for dinner and drinks... sounds great! But where's Hatagaya?

Located just 2 stops from Shinjuku and neighboring a long walkway is Ryukyu Sakaba.

Seems the restaurant is housed in an old home and they used the existing wooden structure... a nice tropical feel inside.

Lots of choices on the all-you-can-drink Nomihoudai Menu... and they had Orion Beer! Quickly finished off 2 mugs... then went directly for some Okinawan Awamori.

Umi-Budo always so great (sea grapes)... some Mimi-Ga (sliced seasoned pig ears).

The tiny fish on the tofy was a bit fishy and boney.

I've never had salad with Ikura (orange fish eggs) before... the dressing was similar to Bagna càuda and so tasty.

Very tender and seasoned Sooki pork thats commonly used as a topping for Okinawan Soba.

Curly fries!  Tasty tasty

Awamori!  We had too many of these... phew.

Taco Rice.... more Orion Beeru

This night we had 2 DSLRS (Nikon D7000, Pentax K-01) and 3 compact cameras (Canon S90, S95 and Lumix LX5)... food and photography can't beat that.

Some counter seating.

Overall this place was great.  Tropical atmosphere, very flavorful food that went well with beer/awamori, service was quick and the Okinawan BGM soothing.  Unsure if I'll go back due to the location but definitely worth a visit!

KICHIJOJI: Jingle Jangle Hawaiian Dining... Hawaii meets Classic Movie Posters

After hitting up 2 different locations in Kichijoji it was time to find a relaxing spot... Childhood friend Kawika lead us to Hawaiian Dining "Jingle Jangle."

Left side of the entrance there is a tiny table for 2 and further back booth seating for a group of 4-5 people.  Nice and cozy.

Free nuts.

Interior is plastered with magazine cutouts, old movie posters and some hand made decorations. At first it was such an interesting theme but after an hour the interest turned into thinking this place was sooo busy on the eyes.

Had to take a video of the restroom and all the artwork inside.

Garlic Octopus... suuuupe garlicy.

Taco Rice that tasted less like taco seasoning and more like umeboshi seasoning.  It was a nice change... but I got my shops mixed up.  Upstairs is an Okinawan restaurant... shoulda tried something more Hawaiian.

Overall an interesting place with jolly service.  BGM was a mix of Hawaiian and 70-80's Japanese hit songs.

YOTSUYA: Onaga-Ya Okinawa Shokudou... great Okinawan on a budget!

After having a disastrous Okinawan Soba lunch at Yanbaru in Shinjuku it was a pleasure to stumble upon this new Okinawan Restaurant across the street from Sophia University. Opened on April 16, 2012.

Daily lunch specials begin at 600yen and most surprising was the So-ki Soba and Rafu-te Soba were both only 600yen.. these usually command a premium as the beef used is very good.

Arrived at 1:45pm on a Saturday as lunch was winding down.

Grand opening sale... Okinawan dishes that range up to 600yen are all only 300yen til April 28th.

Went for the So-Ki Soba lunch set for only 600yen!

Little side dishes.

Spice for the Okinawan soba... think it consists of Awamori with little peppers inside.

Meat was extremely tender... yum.

Noodles consisted of both skinny and chunky noodles...  fun to eat.  If you want Oomori (extra) noodles its free!  But after gaining 2 kilo's in the past week on consuming waaaay too many carbs I went for the regular portion... it was still so much!

2 slices of Kamaboko.

Nice cozy interior... playing Okinawan music on the BGM.

Dinner menu.

A great little discovery in the basement of this building... My image of places in these locations are not very positive... normally mediocre franchise style shops but Onaga-Ya was a pleasant surprise.  Value is simply hands down great.  Highly suggest it if you are craving Okinawan on a budget.  You'll get stuffed!

I went back a few days later to try their 700yen Taco Rice Lunch... it was a salty disaster!  Stay away from this and stick to the great Okinawan Soba lunch set :)
