NAKAMURABASHI: Lapooh Thai for a reasonable 780 yen lunch in the burbs. (Canon s120)

A new Thai restaurant opened up in Nakamurabashi!

Price point was very reasonable at 780 yen.

Rather spacious interior.

Khao Man Gai is all me.... how does it compare to Hyotan Thai Restaurant in Ekoda?

Lunch includes spring roll.

Thai programs on the large TV but they had Thai music on the BGM.

Wonderful Thai tea... it was so mellow.

Here it is!  First impression... there wasn't so much chicken on the rice and rather dry.

Really liked this dipping sauce... sweet and spicy.

Rice had little bits of fried onion or garlic... tasty.

Overall the volume was just right but for an additional 70 yen you can have an amazing value at one of the Hyotan Thai restaurants.  But the chef and waitress were friendly.

FUJIMIDAI: Butamaru Ramen Jiro'style (Jiro-kei) heavy flavorful ramen with friendly staff! (Canon G7x)

Attempted to try a new little Thai restaurant but seems they don't do lunch on Mondays... so wandered into the next town and spotted this beautiful yellow awning that can only mean 1 thing!  Its that heavy thick oily high calorie Jiro style ramen!  Had to goooo!

You can the standard Bu-Ro ramen 250 grams for 780 yen but I kinda max out at 200 grams so went for the Mini-Buu 650 yen 150 grams.

White pepper, red pepper and tooth pics for you.

This is how you order.  I have never seen a Jiro style ramen shop that allows you to customize the texture of your noodles but you can do soft, normal or hard.  The free additional toppings are garlic, veggies, fat and extra flavorful soup.

Comfy counter stools.

Table in the back for families maybe.

Japanese pop on the BGM

My order was just a little veggies (Yasai-Sukuname) and extra fat.  Didn't go for the garlic or extra flavorful soup.

Extra fatty pieces were tasty.

The noodles were so thick and perfectly chewy! I might have to try the softer noodles next time (they boil it for a longer period of time).

Big chunks of tender pork.  Overall the soup had an addictive feeling to it... it was just good all the way through and luckily it didn't leave any MSG after taste that I experienced at Jiro Ramen Hibarigaoka branch http://tokyobelly.blogspot.com/2018/03/hibarigaoka-ramen-jiro-got-650-yen-msg.html

Lots of boxes of Mirin or Japanese rice wine used for cooking... might be their secret incredient.

Great counter seating, solid bowl of ramen for 680 yen but most of all the staff was so friendly.  Unsure if they were married but couple in their late 20's were running the spot.  I'll be back soon.

IKEBUKURO: Sushi Uogashi Nihon Ichi standing sushi restaurant... super busy! (SONY RX100)

Craving sushi all week and headed off to Ikebukuro to give Sushi Uogashi Nihon Ichi a try!

If you are a foreigner the chef will ask you right away if you need an English menu.  I think most of the sushi orders come in 2 pieces.

Your sushi tray is a pretty big leaf.

Arrived around 10:20pm and last call is about 10:50pm...

Grilled salmon and toro.

Always have to go for the Akami maguro... yum.

If you need wasabi just ask.

Guy next to me ordered this so had to try.... think its toro topped with grated potato or raddish.

Ika squid!

The chef that was serving my corner.

One big mistake foreigners often make is that this green powder isn't wasabi... its green tea powder.  There is a little push button hot water spout on the counter so just mix away.

Overall the pieces were smaller than most sushi restaurants but because the high turnover everything seemed to be so fresh.  Had placed an order for negitoro but it never arrived... asked the chef about then he added another order to my receipt.  Gotta be wary as many restaurants are now charging foreigners extra for certain dishes because most tourists don't question the bill.  Occurs mostly in Shinjuku Kabukicho area.
