EBISU: Ebisu Monja...Soupy pan fried batter with toppings. Great nomihoudai course but a bit smokey smelly.

What kind of Japanese foods can you actively participate in... Sukiyaki, Shabu Shabu and then there is Monjayaki. Went for the 3,500 yen full course set with 2.5 hours of nomihoudai.

Pretty big drink menu and you can re-order beers.

Cabbage with seasoned seaweed

Think this egg had noodles and pork inside.

We were allowed to select 1 style of Monja for the course.

Seafood konomiyaki

And so we selected the most expensive Monjayaki... the Margherita 1,280 yen.
Main seasoning was the basil sauce/

Waitress chopped up all the ingredients and made a circle...

...then poured the remaining liquid into the circle.

Added a little mozzarella cheese on top and we just had to wait for most of the water to evaporate.  I'm a huge cheese fan but my friend who lives near the Tsukishima (home of Monja) said the quality was rather average.

6 Takoyaki balls. (My only Sony RX100 shot this night).

Chilled seasoned daikon radish with yuzu... this was good.

Seasoned pork plate on a bed of boiled beansprouts.

You can either have Yakisoba or Soba-Meshi (Rice dish) for the final choice.

And after a very long 2.5 hours we close with vanilla ice cream.

Overall for 3,500 yen we had a very generous course that with all you can drink menu.  The place is very smelly due to everyone making Monja so if you are planning to hit up a nice bar afterwards then this is a pass and it can get very hot so be prepared to sweat.  And for the staff... a bunch of what I can only assume part timers who neither smiled or very friendly.

KANDA: Rump Cap for a mixed beef plate... mix of super tough and slightly tough beef. Hmm...

In Kanda for a meeting and who doesn't love steak!
Arrived at 11:30am and ordered the limited 980yen Mix Steak plate.

Looking good with corn and grilled onions on the side but one bite I was chomping for quite a while... this dish is partly filled with extremely tough meat. Was about to give up after a few bites.

Free refills on the rice, soup and the radish sauce/

Overall nah... if you like really tough beef then give it a go but Japan has so much more to offer. Conveniently located under the rail road tracks just a few seconds from Kanda station. Oh its run by a massive franchise chain...

EKODA: Ramen Taiyo for a midnight Gyoza run... pretty good.

Been hooked on gyoza (pot stickers) lately and made a midnight run a few stations away.

Gyoza Rice set...

Here we go... not too sure what I paid for this set but 5 piece of jumbo gyoza alone is 600 yen.  Must have been like 750 for the set.

Includes a soup that almost tasted like ramen broth.

The wrap was very chewy and not thin like many places.

This place is highly ranked on Tabelog and I might have to give the ramen a try next time.
If you live in Ekoda please give it a try... there are big picture menu's outside so just point and order. Oh they are open until 2am.
