KICHIJOJI: Satou for their crazy popular mashed potato and minced beef corokke balls! (Sony RX100)

Satou has some of the most popular corokke mashed potato and minced beef balls!  Lines are usually 30-50 deep but due to coronavirus and end of Tokyo's lockdown most people were at work on this June 2nd Tuesday afternoon.  THUS!  Line was only about 10 deep!

Socia distancing tape on the pavement.

You can also buy fresh cuts of butcher meat here...

Many different kind of fried items.

Menu is in English also.  The Minced Beef Cutlet (Menchi-Katsu / minced beef corokke ball with chopped onions) 240 yen but if you buy 5 or more its 220 yen.  And the mashed potatoe corokke 150 yen.

Friendly staff will ask what you need then just  pay the cashier.

Back to Kichijoji Park for a few beers and my take-out.

Potato corokke was rather normal... but very big like a billards ball.

My favorite was definitely the minced beef ball with large slices of onions... the sweetness of the onions and almost meatball texture of the beef was soooo yum!! If in Kichijoju you gotta gooo!

EBISU: Rowazo for a some amazing wagyu... very cozy back room that fits 6. (SONY RX100)

Had a guest visiting from Bend Oregon and one of my favorite clients selected Rowazo for a perfectly balanced dinner...

For starters... loved the cracker with avocado.

Incredibly tender beef... it almost seemed rare.

The owner letting us know what part of the cow the beef we were eating was from.   His father owns several Mercedes Benz dealerships in Tokyo.

Oh this tsukune was so amazing... so juicy and tender.

Tomato wrapped in beef.

Only had 2 styles of beer... this was the IPA and also a lighter craft beer. No domestic name brand Japanese beers are served here.

Highlight was definitely the incredibly tender beef with seasoned onions as topping.

Dessert was tea and honey topped toast.

The kind chef noticed me taking photos of the beef that was laid out then he said wait... ducked down and pulled out the most tender cuts for a photo.

If you are not on a budget this place is definitely great for dinner as our bill was around 15,000 - 20,000 per person.  But they do have a great roast beef lunch deal for about 1500 yen!  The owner/server was incredibly friendly and this night was full of regulars.

EKODA: Oomiya SeiNiku Shop... Nostalgic mom and pop Corokkes :)

I've walked past this butcher on my random walks thru Ekoda's neat little old style shopping alleys and always peek into this shop...

As I stood on the side of the shop glancing at the different types of corokke's this little old lady about 70 or so peeked over to check on me... meaning to try the corokke here how could I walk away?  The corokkes start at a very very reasonable 67yen so I was in for two.

Lots of great looking marbled meats...

Sure would like to take this home.

The outer bread had a very nice chewiness to it and the corroke inside (think its like mashed potato, melted onions and ground pork) had a very nice chewy thick creamy texture that simply didn't fall apart... It just felt so homemade versus Seiyu's 47yen mass produced brand.  There is somethings special about buying from an elderly couple that seems to have been holding this shop down for 40-50 years.  I'll definitely be back for more!

Since my move I rarely see any more exotics... hello 2012/2013 R35 GT-R!

REVISITED a few days later!  Asked the nice old grandma if they had any more potato corokke and she said it was all old out... how can we no cheer on this shop with such friendly owners.
(A video I took on August 23, 2014)

So got the mini hotdog rapped in something, a menchi-katsu corokke and a breaded Ham (that for some reason tasted like RAID cockroach spray...hmm).  Anyways nothing beats the 67yen potato corokke but get there early!
