MCDONALD`S JAPAN: BIG Smile Big Mac set discounted from 690 yen to 550yen! Two stacked 1 dollar burgers = big mac? (Sony α57)

I`m a huge fan of Filet O Fish and can`t really justify paying over 500 yen for a McDonalds burger so I tend to stick to the dollar burger and chicken crisp sandwich menu... PLUS the occasional Spicy Chicken burger that has an addictive sweet and sour siracha style sauce for 200 yen. 

BUT I noticed the Big Mac set called BIG SMILE was discounted from 690 yen to only 550 yen!  I only eat Big Macs once every few years and had to dive in!

Big Mac boxes had a secret coupon... scored a 50 yen off Teriyaki Burger coupon. 

Here is a Japanese Big Mac!  Lots of lettuce.

Was so disappointed that the meat patties were so thin.... exactly what comes with the 100 yen (Dollar) hamburger.  I can`t believe people actually order this in burger heaven Tokyo. Special sauce was just so underwhelming and bland. 

When in Japan its probably best to check out Mos Burger that has thicker burger patties and more interesting toppings.  See you in another 5 years BigMac!  Gonna stick to the dollar burger menu and filet o fish!

My fav! Filet O Fish! But at 370 yen I don`t usually order this when at a lower price I can get a fulfilling Japanese Bento at Hotto Motto or Origin.

OKINAWA NAHA: Naminoue Hotto Motto... if in need of a 24 hour bento spot this is your goto national franchise! (Sony RX100)

The saddest dinner ever.. Unable to return to the US due to coronavirus so I stayed the holidays in Okinawa. Christmas night... streets are pretty much deserted so I find myself at Hotto Motto ordering my Christmas dinner.  

There are some Okinawa specific items on the menu. 

Ordered the Tuna Nori-Bento... a layer of tuna mayo sits under the slice of seaweed topped with few fried food items. 

Only in Okinawa will you see goya champuru...

If you are a fan of Fish and Chips then this fried fish might be comfort food for you.  Plus a fried kamaboko (kind of like a hollow fish hotdog) and some picked vegetables.

Inexpensive and made to order so very hot.  A great alternative to McDonald's.

OKINAWA NAHA: Sen-Nichi Okinawan zenzai shave ice! Quite the volume and normally a full house... minus Coronavirus (Sony RX100, a57)

Walked past Sen-Nichi last summer and it was a full house... skipped it due to coronavirus social distancing worries.  BUT I was back for the Christmas holidays only to find it empty at 3pm

They also serve Okinawa Soba noodles

Taiyaki if you like!  Sweet azuki bean filled pancakes in the shape of a fish.

In this photo it looks rather normal but that glass bowl was big and so filled with sweet azuki beans.

Noticed 2 types of beans... very sweet. 

Overall its a great Okinawan treat for the summer and you can rarely find this in Tokyo.  But honestly think my favorite is still Ryugu inside the Kokusai Street shopping alley.

OKINAWA NAHA: George Restaurant for some very tasty soft shell tacos! I went 3 times!! Plus Chili and Enchilada update. (Sony RX100, a57)

 

When in search of Taco`s just goto Okinawa!  George Restaurant established in 1954 serves some great soft shell taco`s and taco rice!  But it was all tacos for me!

This looked so good but a bit out of my budget. Tenderloin Steak!!

Pizza seemed to be a hit among some American diners. 

Back in the day when the US controlled Okinawa there was a special a WELCOME MILITARY PERSONNEL if the restaurant met cleanliness standards... recently learned about this A plaque.

Taco meat was super flavorful, the soft shell taco`s so perfectly chewy and most liked the salsa spicy sauce.  Super comfort food.

Overall this place is just so comfy... staff super attentive and taco`s yum to me.  When in Naha you gotta visit!  Super close to Naminoue Beach but if you wander around it is quite the red light district.

I went back again during Xmas! Had to try the chili beans.

Very heavy on the beans but tasty.

And the Enchiladas! Suuuuuper cheesy with what seemed to be meat sauce topping. Think I like the soft shell tacos the best.
