NAKANO: Oyaki-Dokoro Refutei for their amazing Imakawayaki... Its like a soft donut sandwich with azuki bean paste. (iPhone 12 Mini)

 

Of all the sweets in Japan my absolute favorite is the Imakawa-Yaki.  Its like an incredibly fluffy pancake/donut sandwich filled with azuki red bean paste.  160 yen here! Had to buy!

Cashier said be careful because its hot.

Its just sooo fluffy and chewy... would go great with a cup of English tea. 

Flavor of the azuki is mild and overwhelming.  Yum! But what got hooked me on this type of pancake was my discovery back in 2010 at Azabu Juban.Tsukishima-Ya 今川焼 月島家

Sugidama Sushi in Koenji has a bit of a high price point compared to my favorite Kura Sushi but this Ramen and 10 Piece Sushi omakase menu stopped me in my tracks! Only 1,100 yen!

Patiently waiting for my meal... It took about 30 minutes to prepare.

Look at this sushi assortment! If you cant eat certain types of sushi let the waitress know... for me it was the shiny skin fish called Hikari-Mono. The skin can be a bit tough.

Not a fan of Tuna but this was like a Otoro quality! Sooo tender and fatty!

You will never see this type of brown rice - Edo-style sushi vinegar rice - at any kaiten sushi like KURA Sushi etc.  Its really rare to get this type of rice at such a low price. Totally on the level of Shinjuku Sushi Ten for 1/3 the price.

Closed with my bowl of clam ramen... But I suggest eating this first as the noodles will absorb the soup and get a bit soggy.

I asked the waitress if this 1,100 yen sushi special would end anytime soon... she said NO!! I will definitely be back soon!!  10 piece sushi, bowl of ramen and a Mega-Hiball for under 1,500 yen.

OYAMA: Uobei by Genki Sushi! Wow this might be my new favorite budget Sushi... maybe better then Kura Sushi! (Sony RX100, iPhone 12 mini)

Ive passed by Uobei a few times but there was always a crowd so I never ventured inside.  But during my evening walks I try to find somewhere budget to eat.

 

This night I was seated right away!

Of course if the Maguro is good than its a great indicator that everything will be good. I mean how can you not put any effort into the most basic and popular sushi.

Look how big the cuts are! Sooooo good.

Free Green Tea

Add a bit of wasabi on top.  Please dont mix it into shoyu and dip the sushi into it. Its not the way of the Japanese.

Then squirt a few drops of shoyu on the top of the sushi.

Thick cuts too!  Much thicker than Kura Sushi.

Wow... the pepper mayo was soooo tasty.  Love sushi thats slightly torched.

I usually max out around 4-5 plates.  Just needed a spot to rest up a bit and head out to complete my evening walk.

Grand Total! 540 yen! Totally worth it.

I always had a negative image of Genki Sushi but this Uobei branded shop was amazing! Definitely go if you are in the area or spot another branch. There is one in Shibuya https://www.genkisushi.co.jp/search/map.php?id=232
