OIZUMIGAKUEN: Uminchu run by a friendly husband and wife team... cozy Okinawan restaurant.

A fan of the Uminchu restaurant in Nerima and found out there was a brand new branch in Oizumigakuen... had to go!

Arrived at a super early 5:15pm... customers started filling the seats at 7pm.

Orion Beer!

They bring out a tray of puupuus and each person can select one small dish.

Most items on the menu are pictured.

Shima Rakkyo... kind of like an onion and garlic flavor veggie.

The store opened 5 months ago and they have a 1 free drink coupon.

Buta no kakuni... very tender seasoned pork.

Goya champuru... a must!  Goya was unusually not bitter.  The chef mentioned if you mix in egg and dry fish shards it mellows the bitterness.

Huge menu of Awamori and who best to text for a recommendation?
Our trusty Okinawan musician... he recommended this bottle.  Had a very mellow sweetness to it, definitely a great choice for beginners.

Kensaku-sensei...

The owner gave us both a small dish of something I have never seen.  It was kimchee seasoned mozuku... soooo tasty and only available at this restaurant.  Store original.

Nice touch... little sea shells around the rest room sink.

Little Okinawan andagi donuts as a parting gift.

Overall the place is very cozy, have a few tv monitors, some seating options (counter. booths and tatami) but the best part was the friendly owner.  He said there are 11 Uminchu's around Tokyo but this is the only shop that is a franchise and owned by the couple.  Gotta support the small business owner.
