ROPPONGI: Menya Musashi Kosho... My favorite HK based Japanese foodie post. Definitely on another level! (SONY RX100)


My  favorite Instagram foodie and quite spot on photographer based out of Hong Kong.  Most of her adventures are another level but on her recent visit to Tokyo she near my office. Had to visit her ramen shop post in Roppongi! @furellie #furellie

This was when we entered at 9:20pm but before my ramen came out there was a line outside.

The push button system here is interesting. The most expensive items are pictured on the top row while most Japanese ramen spots will put the least expensive but most recommended item on the top left.  This was the first time I paid 1,200 yen for a bowl of ramen.  Thinking back.. I went to a Musashi in Shinjuku back in 2010 that was 1,000 yen! Same owner?

I think you can level up your noodles all the way to 1 kilograms! Phew.

yeah this ramen was a beauty... The pork was nicely grilled, the noodles perfectly think & chewy, the soup delicious.   Honestly if you had to have just 1 bowl of ramen please skip Ippudo and Ichiran. OR if you are up for and adventure at a budget 600-700 yen price range thats hella delicious check out Jiro. https://tokyobelly.blogspot.com/search?q=jiro




I think this seasoned semi-boiled egg was an additional 100 yen.

  1. It was a passage for me. On my second day in Japan in December 2005, I was strolling around east Shinjuku trying to find an Indian restaurant advertised in an English-language publication I had grommed at the Keisei Ueno station.
    I never found that restaurant. It turned out it was on the 2nd floor of an edifice and I just kept missing its sandwich board on the sidewalk. But what halted the search was when I turned a different corner and espied a line of locals queued up for something.
    It was Menya Musashi's Shinjuku shop.
    I am still unsure just what I ordered. I hit a button - not on the top line - but at line 2, column 2; it was ¥870. Got the ticket. When the ramen-ya asked me questions, one of the few Japanese words I knew then was 'futsu'.
    The bowl did the job. Yes, this was my first bowl of ramen anywhere.
    I grommed some location cards from this shack annotating where were their other locations. There was a location in Ueno close to a frequent subway transfer point for me. So - one of my other significant accomplishments on this trip was managing to locate where in Ueno this was without any maps.
    Chains get flack. Some of it is deserved. Some is not. This chain is solid. 8=)}
