IKEBUKURO: Donbansinki Korean for a cheap yet awful Tofu Chige Soup set... the pain.

I had walked past Donbansinki a few times and just had to check out their 500yen Tofu-Chige lunch set... I'm such a huge fan of a few spots in Akasaka.

Lots of lunch set items but I think the main attraction might be the all you can eat Yakiniku for 1,280yen/70minutes.  Two fashionable Japanese girls went for the tabehoudai.

But this was me... 500yen Tofu (Sundubu) Chige for 500yen.

This looked like a fair deal 1/2 Samgyetang lunch set for 680yen.

The walls were painted black and it was rather uncomfortably dark... just waiting for the bats and vampires to appear.

There it is!  One look and the soup looked rather bland.  No the very rich red pasty color that I enjoy so much in Akasaka: http://tokyobelly.blogspot.jp/search?q=akasaka+chige

A few sips and I just didn't want to go thru with eating this... It just tasted like spicy water... no deep rich flavor.  Filled mostly with large chopped onions and a little kimchee.  Very little Tofu.

Free rice upgrade to Oomori "Big Size"... don't!  The rice was undercooked and still hard.

Overall the service was slow, restaurant too morbidly dark, Sundubu Tofu Chige was aweful and I'll never be back for their lunch sets.  But maybe you'll have better luck with the all you can eat yakiniku special. Oh the Tabelog foodie ranking of 3.00pts should have been a huge indicator to just walk on by.
