OTSUKA: Iwafune Soba for an amazing dinner but did you know noodle water and sake mix well!

The owner and chef of this spot is Hawaiian at heart and every dish he prepares is simply perfect.  Even foodies get cravings for his home made buckwheat noodles... so this night a friend of mine got that craving and I tagges along.

Tiny noodle appetizer

I always assumed that atsukan "hot sake" was simply placed in a white bottle and boiled in hot water... thats all.  But did you know you can mix sake and the water used to boil buckwheat together for another version of hot sake?  In my 6-7 years of visiting this restaurant little did I know it was an option.

My Japanese friend suggested Soba-Wari with Sake and it was the only type of drink we had the entire night.  The soba-yu (soba water) gave the the sake a soft creamy kind flavor to the usual sharp sake.

Dish 1... grilled mentaiko

The yellow item on the left is a sea slug and tasted like the ocean... went well with the sake.

Chef Masa brought out one of his specialties... grilled miso.

And of course when at Iwafune you must order the Sakura-Ebi (shrimp).  Soooo crispy chewy and good.

Sweet hot egg... yum.

My previous entry at Masa's:

If you are in the mood for an amazing dish of Soba in a great atmosphere I would definitely goto Iwafune (only 1 stop from Ikebukuro on the JR Yamanote line).  I'll be back for sure~.
