OKINAWA NAHA: Kawakami Sengyo - Senbelo aka 1,000 yen Tipsy with Sashimi and 3x Drinks! Smoking boo! (Sony RX100)

Its so rare to see 3 drinks and 2 appetizer Senbelo aka 1,000 yen Tipsy in Okinawa anymore.. everything has gone up to 1,200 yen or 1,500 yen. BUT! Noticed Kawakami Sengyo was a full house and asked the staff about their plan.

It was 3 drinks, a dish of sashimi and one other item on the daily specials menu! What an very rare great deal in this post Covid and inflation era.

The drink menu! Included Sochu and Awamori.. but Im more of a beer kinda guy.  At least for the 1st drinking location.

The Sashimi! 3 types... It came out right away and slightly chilled.

With every drink they will stamp your receipt.  Many places will give you little figurines or marbles.

I initially assumed it was 3 drinks, a plate of sashimi and I was required to order a 300 yen extra dish...but the waiter said 1,000 yen please. GREAT! What a deal.

I didnt realize until I exited but 2 guys behind me tilted their head in my direction and kept blowing smoke at me... dude! Was wondering why this mostly windowless open air izakaya was so incredibly smoky.  But staff was very attentive... food is a bit junky but great value for senbelo!

OKINAWA NAHA: Mikasa Shokudo Matsuyama Branch for 800yen Beef, Tofu and Garlic Stirfry! (Sony RX100)

I really enjoy visiting Mikasa Shokudo because all the chefs and waitresses are very active elderly ladies. Gotta support Okinawa grannies. 

Counter seating for 4 and there are many tables for 2-4 people.

I really should have ordered some vegetables but the Tofu caught my eye.

Free self serve water and green tea.

About 15-20 minutes later my food arrives! It was a full house when I was entered and also when I left.  Super popular even on a late Sunday afternoon. Comes with rice and a side of red miso soup.

Lots of giant chunks of sliced garlic!  It was a bit overwhelming... thinly cut beef a bit tough but I mostly enjoyed the Tofu!

They also have standard Okinawa classics like Goya Champuru and Fuu Champuru. Its a very cozy local restaurant thats been around forever... give it a try!

OKINAWA NAHA ASATO: Asatoya Suba (Soba) standing noodle shop! 3 minutes to boil al`dente... very heavy. (iphone 12 mini)

Back on the islands! Didnt eat very much this day and one of my favorite Okinawa Charu soba but it was closed... so on the way back to town I spotted this standing Okinawa Asatoya Suba noodle spot.  I wonder why its not Soba but Suba.

Counter seat in front of the chef... Not many welcomes or hellos at this spot. It was all business I guess.

They have the awamori hot pepper spice.

So I went for the Soki-Soba 860 yen.  Tender Pork!

2 nice pieces of tender pork, 2 slices of white kamaboko fish cakes and negi. 

Noodles were boiled for 3 minutes but unusually aldente... a bit on the very heavy side.  Usually noodles are not boiled this long. I assume they may be a special blend noodle. Not my style. 

I managed to finish the entire plate and drank all the soup but it was very heavy on the Ajinomoto MSG.  The flavor lingered in my mouth for a while.

Overall once is enough for this price point, not very friendly staff and standing to eat a bowl of Okinawa Soba wasn't too enjoyable.   Just seemed rushed. In Tokyo a bowl of soba or udon noodles at 300 yen a bowl then sure standing is fine but for noodles at this price at least a small table would be nice.
